Evaluation of Alternative Backup Protection Schemes on a 66kv Distribution Network

چکیده
Directional and non directional overcurrent protection are well established methods of providing either primary or backup protection on distribution networks. Compared to unit protection which only protects a specific piece of equipment, such as a transformer or feeder, overcurrent protection has the advantage of being able to provide protection to large sections of network. To do this the overcurrent protection on a network must be coordinated. On radial distribution systems this can be easily achieved, however, on a meshed or looped system it is not always possible to achieve the required coordination. For this reason overcurrent protection is sometimes unsuitable for certain applications. This paper looks at a section of 66kV distribution network for which overcurrent protection is unsuitable. The inadequacy of the standard protection scheme for the network in question is explained and possible alternatives discussed. The paper then goes through the rationale for selecting the most suitable alternative protection scheme for the section of network in question.

Adaptive Protection Based on Intelligent Distribution Networks with the Help of Network Factorization in the Presence of Distributed Generation Resources
Factorizing a system is one of the best ways to make a system intelligent. Factorizing the protection system, providing the right connecting agents, and transmitting the information faster and more reliably can improve the performance of a protection system and maintain system reliability against distributed generation resources. This study presents a new method for coordinating network protect...
متن کاملA Novel Protection Guaranteed, Quality of Transmission Aware Routing and Wavelength Assignment Algorithm for All-optical Networks
Transparent All Optical Networks carry huge traffic and any link failure can cause the loss of gigabits of data; hence protection and its guarantee becomes necessary at the time of failure. Many protection schemes were presented in the literature, but none of them speaks about protection guarantee. Also, in all optical networks, due to absence of regeneration capabilities, the physical layer i...
متن کاملSmart load shedding in distribution networks considering the importance of loads
One of the most important tasks of operators in distribution companies is to restoration after a fault in the network. In load restoration schemes, in addition to observing the load flow constraints, it is necessary to maintain the grid structure radially and, most importantly, observing the balance of consumption with the possibility of providing load due to the limitations of the backup feede...
متن کاملProtection Schemes for Two Link Failures in Optical Networks
In this paper we develop network protection schemes against two link failures in optical networks. The motivation behind this work is the fact that the majority of all available links in an optical network suffer from single and double link failures. In the proposed network protection schemes, NPS2-I and NPS2-II, we deploy network coding and reduced capacity on the working paths to provide back...
متن کاملPerformance Evaluation of Optical Mesh Restoration Schemes
This paper investigates the performance of various schemes for restoration of lightpaths in an optical mesh network. We consider schemes in which backup paths for links or paths are pro-computed, but wavelength assignment is either pro-computed (static) or done dynamically upon failure (dynamic). In static restoration we compare the performance of link and path restoration in terms of capacity ...
